Deploying an operating system to your computer

Modified on Wed, 9 Jun, 2021 at 7:43 AM

Note: Operating systems can only be deployed to computers physically connected to the network at an Intro office.

WARNING:
Deploying an operating system will irreversibly delete all data from the computer. You are responsible for ensuring all important data is backed up before commencing this procedure.

Only deploy an operating system when instructed to do so by a Global ICT staff member.

Prerequisites

Please ensure that:

  • The computer is physically connected to the network via a network (UTP) cable (not via Wi-Fi).
  • The power supply is connected (if the computer is a laptop).
  • The computer is completely switched off.

Procedure

Switch the computer on and immediately and continuously tap the F12 button on the keyboard until the Network boot menu appears.

Note: If the computer boots in to Windows, you waited too long before pressing F12. Please shut down the computer and start again.

Choose UEFI N/W -IPV4 Network.

When prompted, press F12 to commence the network service boot process:

Note: The network service boot prompt is only displayed for a few seconds after which the computer will continue boot normally and skip the network boot process.

If this happens, start again from step 2. Global I.C.T needs to configure the deployment system to allow your device to boot from the network.

Start the task sequence:

  • Once loading has completed and the Task Sequence wizard appears, click Next.

Choose an Operating system:

  • Choose the operating system and version instructed by Global ICT and click Next.

Select OSDComputername and click Edit.

Specify the computer name:

  • In the Value field, type the computer name.
  • Click OK to proceed.

You can find the computer name on a white sticker on your device. The computer name starts with "IN".

Click Next to proceed.

The operating system and applications are now being downloaded and installed. Depending on available network bandwidth, this process may take up to an hour.

Once the task sequence has completed installing the operating system and applications, Windows will start and you can sign in.

Once you've signed in, the TeamViewer setup Wizard appears. Click Next to proceed.

Leave the password fields blank and click Next to proceed.

Click Skip password.

Click Finish to completed the TeamViewer setup.

The operating system has now successfully been installed
