Although PDF is intended as a non-editable format, there are a few ways to make changes to a PDF file:
- Adobe Document Cloud
- Edit the PDF in Microsoft Word
- Split or merge PDF files using PDF Split and Merge
- Edit the PDF using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC
Adobe Document Cloud
Adobe Document Cloud (https://documentcloud.adobe.com) is a convenient online service that enables you to perform a wide range of editing actions on PDF files.
To use the service you'll first need to register for an Adobe ID (https://account.adobe.com).
Edit the PDF in Microsoft Word
To edit a PDF, simply open it in Word. This works best with PDFs that are mostly text.
- Go to File > Open.
- Find the PDF, and open it (you might have to select Browse and find the PDF in a folder).
Word tells you that it's going to make a copy of the PDF and convert its contents into a format that Word can display. The original PDF won't be changed at all. Select OK.
Note: The converted document might not have a perfect page-to-page correspondence with the original. For example, lines and pages may break at different locations.
Split or merge PDF files using PDF Split and Merge (PDFsam)
Note: PDFsam is available from the Company Portal.
With PdfSAM you can:
- Merge PDF files
- Rotate PDF files
- Split PDF files
- Extract pages from PDF files
- Compress PDF files
- Delete pages from PDF files
- Crop PDF files
- Convert images to PDF files
- Convert PDF files to greyscale
Edit the PDF using Adobe Acrobat Pro

Acrobat Pro includes everything in Acrobat Standard plus additional PDF features and a wide variety of e-signature tools.
